Daydreams by Barry
Meditative Art
Barry Sher, a Kansas Citian by birth is an artist in transition.
He has been an innovator with the mediums of acrylics and
resins for over thirty years.
In a progression of styles and experimental techniques he has
developed a unique craft through research, experimentation, and
observation. In 1974 he began
to produce a “stained glass style” work, creating a more affordable
craft with the traditional look.
In 1983 he experienced a spiritual awakening in his life and
began his search for a more inspirational style of work to fill the
need to share his enthusiasm for the artistic material he works with.
Barry’s work has evolved from a deeper understanding of the
spiritual path he is being lead to travel.
He feels at times “there is a divine hand in my work giving me
motivation and guidance to push me to search and create..”
His present style is very calming, often expressing wonderment, love,
and joyous explorations of inner emotions.
The craft has developed into a more abstract style than his
past work, and the colors are much more brilliant, and in some
instances appear to be watercolors.
The viewer is drawn into explore the piece, its forms, spaces,
and how it transforms the spectrum of colors with the changing
environment.
Transparency in relation to light, dark, and color is the challenge
that draws me to my work. I
attempt to convert the transparent intangibles in life (sprit,
feelings, daydreams, and emotions) into a physical yet still
transparent forms. I use
pigments, resins and embediments to create with various utensils,
brushes and the material itself to produce textures and forms in my
work. Like a chemist I must
determine the relationships between temperature, time, catalyst, and
amounts of material to create a unique constantly changing work.
My pieces are made to be free and moveable rather than
installed so they may be placed in new settings at the owners
choosing.
Barry is currently experimenting with more organic forms and
sculpture, with an aim toward wall hangings, room screens, and
possibly waterfall in the future but still feels as if he’s in a
transition period and privileged to be working with light as a fourth
dimension.
